Student–faculty ratio feels like intimacy. It is a staffing ratio, not a promise you will know your professors, and it varies with how schools count faculty. Treat it as one optional signal among many.
Better uses
- Scan smallest class sizes when the ratio is the literal question.
- On a school page, pair it with graduation, retention, and size — not as a solo trophy.
- In the engine, do not overweight a single soft proxy when cost and outcomes matter more to your family.
